Past and prospect of
00 Eun College

00 Eun College was established as ‘Maponeun College’ under a slogan, ‘Anyone can teach, and anywhere can be a classroom’ in 2008. The Hope Center and Noridan have collaboratively been running various projects for the purpose of creating jobs for young people, which could revitalize the local communities. Through ‘Byeolbyeol Solution’ project in 2011, they tried to propose a new model called ‘Onsuri College’ in Ganghwa-do area, and they ran ‘Soollae’

project which was for training the community animators. During the first session of the symposium, Choi Daehyeok, the president of Dallok (a media new agency of Noridan), insisted that 00 Eun College should develop influential models for the public and meet the conditions for its independence in his keynote speech. In order to accomplish these goals, the 00 Eun College is planning to seek various operation systems including 00 Eun College Institute and Social Co-op in 2012.

The School of Life in England, the college within our daily life

The keynote speech of Choi was followed by case-study presentations on Shibuya College in Japan and The School of Life in England. It was for seeking the future direction of 00 Eun College.
The School of Life is a social enterprise and self-help school established by a novelist Alain de Botton and his acquaintances. Under the philosophy, ‘A school is not far from us, and should be amongst our life’, its programs have dealt with various topics related to our daily life such as to select a good occupation, to face the death, and to utilize one’s leisure time. Kathy Hynes, a curator from The School of Life, mentioned that these programs convey a message, ‘You should experience by yourself and live your own life’ in her video.

Beyond a model,
spread its value

The third session dealt with potential and mission of 00 Eun College. There were a lot of implications for those who have been conducting various projects in the art education field as well as 00 Eun College. Professor La Joonyoung from Catholic University stated an impressive opinion in his presentation under the title, ‘The Possibility and Assignment to Spread 00 Eun College’.
It would be inappropriate to make a discussion with regarding an arts and culture item as a complete model, which is hard to define as a single type under the rapidly changing social circumstances. I was able to confirm the potential that the project will grow into ‘The Pangpanghan(wonderful) College’ which spread not only its influence as a business model, but also its values in various ways through potential value (local issues) and approach (solution) in many different areas.

The “00 Eun College International Symposium” took place at Hahaheoheo Hall of Haja Center on January 28. The 00 Eun College is part of ‘Byeolbyeol Solution’ which is an art educational social enterprise supporting project in 2011. The purpose of the symposium was to look back on the results of the first year of 00 Eun College, and to see the future potential as an influential model. I was able to see high interest of the people in the new model for the art education when I saw the 200 seats full of the audience.
